In a significant move for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has formally informed the party’s National Officers of his nomination of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as NAPO, as his running mate for the upcoming 2024 General Elections. The announcement was made today, July 1, 2024, at the NPP headquarters in Asylum Down.

The meeting at the NPP’s headquarters follows an earlier presentation of Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s nomination to the majority caucus of Parliament. Dr. Bawumia’s choice is seen as a strategic one, given Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s extensive experience in both the educational and political spheres.

However, the nomination awaits the final approval of the NPP’s National Council, which serves as the party’s ultimate decision-making body. The council’s decision will be crucial in determining the official running mate for Dr. Bawumia as the party gears up for the election campaign.

Dr. Opoku Prempeh, a respected figure in Ghanaian politics, has served in various capacities, including as the Minister of Education and Minister of Energy, earning a reputation for his leadership and reforms.

The announcement has generated considerable interest and anticipation within the party and among the electorate, as the NPP prepares for a competitive election season.
