Election 2024: Ghana Card to be primary source for Passport applications – Bawumia

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has reaffirmed his commitment to simplifying Ghana’s passport application process. During his campaign visit to Nkwanta North in the Oti Region on October 28, Dr. Bawumia outlined his plans to streamline the procedure by utilizing data from the Ghana Card.

According to Dr. Bawumia, the current passport application process is tedious and unnecessary, requiring applicants to fill out lengthy forms. However, he noted that the information required is already available on the Ghana Card, making the process redundant.

To address this issue, Dr. Bawumia pledged that his government would simplify the passport application process. Starting from 2025, applicants will only need to submit their Ghana Card and pay the required fees. This move aims to reduce bureaucratic hurdles and make the process more efficient.

Dr. Bawumia’s emphasis on digitalization has been a hallmark of his campaign. He believes that digital innovations are crucial in improving the lives of Ghanaians and driving the country’s development.
Despite facing criticism for not adequately addressing economic challenges, Dr. Bawumia remains committed to advancing digitalization.

The proposed simplification of the passport application process is expected to benefit millions of Ghanaians.
The current process has been plagued by delays and inefficiencies, making it difficult for citizens to acquire passports.

Dr. Bawumia’s visit to Nkwanta North was part of his campaign tour of the Oti Region. The region was created during the NPP’s tenure, and Dr. Bawumia’s visit aimed to reinforce the party’s commitment to the region’s development.

In a separate visit to the Akan constituency, a paramount chief expressed disappointment that the Oti Region did not strongly support the NPP in the previous elections.
The chief noted that the NPP’s role in creating the new region should have garnered more support from the local population.

Dr. Bawumia’s campaign has focused on showcasing his party’s achievements and outlining his vision for Ghana’s future. The simplified passport application process is just one of the many initiatives he has promised to implement.
