GBC Director General Disputes Sports Minister’s $3 Million Claim for African Games Coverage

In a recent development that has stirred controversy in Ghana’s sports and media sectors, Professor Amin Alhassan, the Director General of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), has challenged the Sports Minister’s claim regarding the payment for coverage of the African Games.

The Sports Minister had previously asserted that GBC received $3 million for broadcasting the Games. However, Professor Alhassan has firmly rebutted this claim, stating that the actual amount received by the national broadcaster was significantly lower—$105,000.

Addressing the media, Professor Alhassan emphasized that GBC had maintained transparency and accountability throughout the transaction, and he provided documentation to support his position.

“We have detailed receipts and records that clearly show the total amount paid for our coverage was $105,000,” he said. “The figure of $3 million mentioned by the Sports Minister is inaccurate.”

The discrepancy between the two figures has raised questions about the accuracy of financial reporting and the management of funds related to the African Games. This revelation has prompted calls for a thorough investigation into the matter to ensure accountability and clarity.

As the situation unfolds, stakeholders and the public await further details and responses from both the Sports Ministry and GBC.
