According to reports, the 2022-23 Ghana Premier League champions, Medeama SC, have issued a stern warning to the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) regarding their participation in the ongoing Top 4 tournament.
The club has notified GHALCA of their intention to withdraw from the competition if outstanding financial matters are not resolved by the end of today.
According to Medeama SC, GHALCA has yet to clarify the full financial benefits of participating in the tournament beyond an
initial payment of GHS 15,000 made to each competing club before the start of the event.
The Tarkwa-based club has raised concerns over the lack of transparency regarding appearance fees and prize money, which have not been communicated by the tournament organizers.
Medeama’s management has made it clear that they will not honor their scheduled match against Nations FC if GHALCA fails to address their concerns today. This development threatens to disrupt the Top 4 tournament, which features some of the top clubs in the country.
The situation underscores ongoing challenges in Ghanaian football regarding the management and financial sustainability of tournaments.
Medeama SC’s stance highlights the importance of clear and fair financial arrangements for clubs, especially those participating in high-profile competitions.
GHALCA has yet to issue a public response to Medeama’s demands, leaving fans and stakeholders anxiously awaiting a resolution. Should the club follow through on its threat, it could have significant implications for the tournament and the credibility of GHALCA’s organizational efforts.
