The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association, in consultation with key stakeholders, has officially appointed Carlos Queiroz as the new head coach of Ghana’s senior national team, the Black Stars.
The highly experienced Portuguese tactician takes over the reins ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, set to be hosted across Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
Queiroz brings with him a wealth of experience at the highest level of international football. Over the years, he has built a reputation as a tactically astute manager with deep knowledge of the global game. His impressive résumé includes stints with top clubs such as Real Madrid and Manchester United, as well as national team roles with Portugal and Iran.
On the international stage, Queiroz has a proven World Cup pedigree.
He guided South Africa to qualification for the 2002 tournament, led Portugal to the knockout stages in 2010, and managed Iran in both the 2014 and 2018 editions of the competition. His vast experience is expected to be instrumental as Ghana aims to make a strong impact on football’s biggest stage.
Beyond these achievements, Queiroz has also held coaching roles in Egypt, Oman, Japan, and Qatar, further underscoring his global coaching footprint.
The veteran coach is set to begin work immediately, with preparations intensifying ahead of the tournament’s kickoff on June 11, 2026. Ghana will open its campaign against Panama on June 17 in Toronto, before taking on European heavyweights England and Croatia in what promises to be a highly competitive group.
Expectations will be high as the Black Stars look to leverage Queiroz’s experience and tactical discipline in their quest for success on the global stage.
