Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko SC have joined forces to push for urgent security reforms in the Ghana Premier League, following a tragic incident that shook the football community.

The two football giants are set to present a joint position paper to the Ghana Football Association (GFA), outlining critical measures to enhance safety at match venues across the country.

In a high-level meeting held in Accra, representatives from Kotoko’s Interim Management Committee (IMC) and members of Hearts of Oak’s Board and Management convened to discuss pressing issues facing the league. Security at stadiums emerged as a top priority, particularly in light of the recent unfortunate loss of Nana Pooley, a devoted Asante Kotoko fan.

The clubs expressed their deep condolences to the bereaved family and reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring that such incidents never happen again. The Hearts of Oak Board extended solidarity to Kotoko, assuring them of their unwavering support in the quest for safer matchday experiences.

Ahead of their scheduled engagement with the GFA’s Executive Committee on Thursday, February 6, 2025, the two clubs are calling for immediate action. They are advocating for stronger security protocols and closer collaboration with key stakeholders, including the government, law enforcement agencies, and football supporters, to guarantee a safe and enjoyable environment for fans.

“Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko are united in their belief that football should bring people together in a secure atmosphere, free from fear or harm,” a statement from the clubs emphasized.

The position paper, once submitted, is expected to detail actionable recommendations aimed at preventing future tragedies. Both clubs are urging the GFA to act swiftly and decisively in implementing these measures, reinforcing the importance of safety in Ghanaian football.

With their combined influence and commitment, Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko are sending a strong message: ensuring the security of players, officials, and supporters is not just an option—it is a necessity for the growth and credibility of the league.
