In response to the tragic events at Nana Koromansah Park, where a violent clash led to the death of a Kumasi Asante Kotoko supporter, key stakeholders in Ghanaian football convened at the Ghana Police Headquarters today for a crucial meeting.

The meeting, led by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, brought together Asante Kotoko executives, Ghana Premier League (GPL) club leaders, and Ghana Football Association (GFA) officials to discuss immediate actions and long-term strategies to address football-related violence.

Key Discussions and Outcomes

The closed-door session focused on:

Ensuring swift justice for the late Francis Yaw Frimpong, with an update on the arrest of three suspects linked to the incident.

Security reforms at league venues to prevent hooliganism and violence in Ghanaian football.

The need for stricter punishments for individuals and clubs involved in violent acts.
Asante Kotoko’s stance on halting football activities until concrete actions are taken.

Plans for a broader meeting with GPL club CEOs on Thursday, February 6, and supporters’ leadership on Friday, February 7.
Commitment to Justice and Reform
IGP Dampare reaffirmed the Ghana Police Service’s commitment to ensuring justice and maintaining peace at football venues.

The GFA also expressed readiness to enforce disciplinary actions while engaging clubs on long-term safety measures.

With Asante Kotoko’s continued boycott of football activities and the GFA’s suspension of Matchday 20 fixtures, all eyes are on the next steps in ensuring that football in Ghana remains a safe and enjoyable sport for all.
