Yaw Amankwah Mireku is a Hearts of Oak Legend who played and captained the team as a centre-back. He was part of the 64 battalion team of Hearts of Oak that won the 2000 CAF Champions League and 2004 CAF Confederation Cup.
Mireku’s commitment and exceptional skills propelled his team to unprecedented glory, etching his name in the history books as a true legend of the game.
He became captain in the 2002/03 season. He said that during his appointment, there was Joe Ansah, Emmanuel Osei Kuffour, and Adjah Tetteh all in the team. So it wasn’t surprising because these players helped him a lot.
He became extremely convinced that God was elevating him, and as a result, he needed to make preparations. He was speaking to Sampson Abban (SHAMMO) on the Takoradi-based sports program on Radio 360, 90.1.
“Although more experienced players like Osei Kuffour were ahead of him, he was someone who takes discipline seriously, and when he talks, they listen. By God’s grace and because he served as an example, he was able to lead the squad to the Africa CAF Champions League, where they were triumphed to victory.”
He said he has seen himself as the best player for Accra Hearts of Oak since 1911 to date because he won every trophy .
He also said he is one of the best captains that Hearts of Oak has ever produced. Since 1911, there has been no player to have lifted Super Cup, Champions League, and the Confederation Cup.
