The 26th edition of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) dazzled music lovers on Saturday night at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC), with King Promise emerging as the biggest winner of the night, clinching the coveted Artiste of the Year award.
The singer, known for his smooth vocals and hit-making prowess, beat stiff competition from fellow nominees Stonebwoy and King Paluta to take home the top honour. King Promise’s dominance was further cemented as he also won Best Album/EP of the Year and Best Afropop/Afrobeats Artiste, marking a milestone in his musical journey.
The glamorous ceremony saw 32 awards presented across various genres, highlighting the diversity and richness of Ghanaian music. From gospel and highlife to afrobeats and hiplife, the event celebrated excellence and artistic innovation.
Notable wins on the night included:
- Stonebwoy, who walked away with Best Video of the Year, Best Reggae/Dancehall Artiste, and Best Reggae/Dancehall Song.
- Kweku Smoke, winning Best Hiphop Song, Rap Performance of the Year, and Best Hiplife/Hiphop Artiste.
- Kofi Kinaata, acclaimed for his lyrical prowess, won Songwriter of the Year with “Saman”.
- Joe Mettle reaffirmed his gospel music dominance with Best Male Vocalist and Best Gospel Artiste.
- Team Eternity Ghana won both Best Urban/Contemporary Gospel Artiste and Group of the Year.
The emotional highlight of the night was the Lifetime Achievement Award, given to Yaw Sarpong and the Asomafo band, honouring their decades-long contribution to gospel music in Ghana.
Performances that lit up the night came from a stellar lineup including Ayisi, Yaw Darling, Empress Gifty, King Paluta, Stonebwoy, and King Promise himself. A touching tribute to the legendary Osibisa band, whose leader Teddy Osei passed away this year, was performed by Titi Owusu, Adina, and Adomaa, receiving a heartfelt response from the audience.
The Unsung Artiste of the Year award went to Yaw Darling, who also opened the show with a powerful performance, setting the tone for an unforgettable night.
