Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) president, Kwesi Nyantakyi, has voiced his disapproval of the #SAVEGHANAFOOTBALL demonstration, labeling it as unnecessary.
Nyantakyi made these remarks during an interview on Onua TV, where he expressed his views on the recent protest organized by football stakeholders.
The #SAVEGHANAFOOTBALL demonstration saw members of the football fraternity, including journalists, administrators and fans, take to the streets to raise awareness about the challenges facing Ghanaian football.
The participants highlighted issues such as corruption, mismanagement, and lack of accountability within the football governing bodies.
While acknowledging the legitimacy of the concerns raised by the demonstrators, Nyantakyi questioned the effectiveness of using demonstrations as a means to address these issues.
According to him, while the points raised were relatable, resorting to demonstrations may not be the best approach to have their voices heard.
Nyantakyi’s comments reflect a broader debate within Ghanaian society about the role of demonstrations as a tool for social change.
While some argue that demonstrations serve as a powerful means of expressing dissent and demanding accountability from authorities, others contend that they can lead to disruptions and may not always result in concrete solutions to the underlying problems.
The former GFA president’s stance underscores the need for constructive dialogue and engagement between football stakeholders and the relevant authorities to address the challenges facing Ghanaian football.
Rather than relying solely on demonstrations, Nyantakyi advocates for alternative channels of communication and advocacy to effect positive change within the football ecosystem.
As Ghanaian football continues to grapple with internal strife and external pressures, Nyantakyi’s perspective serves as a reminder of the importance of finding common ground and working together towards sustainable solutions for the betterment of the sport.
Whether demonstrations or dialogue, the ultimate goal remains the same: to safeguard the integrity and future of Ghanaian football.
