In a significant development, the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced the forfeiture of membership for four prominent figures within the party—Hopeson Adorye, Yaw Buaben Asamoa, Nana Ohene Ntow, and Boniface Abubakar Saddique.
This decision comes in light of their recent actions, including publicly endorsing a candidate other than the duly elected Presidential Candidate, His Excellency Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia.
The announcement, made in accordance with Article 3(9)(1) of the NPP Constitution, signifies a strict adherence to party regulations.
The cited constitutional provision explicitly states that a member who stands as an independent candidate against the officially elected member of the Party, or supports another political party, automatically forfeits their membership.
The leadership of the NPP, led by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, expressed concern over the actions of the individuals, emphasizing their failure to abide by and uphold the decisions of the party, as outlined in Article 3(5)(A)(4) of the Constitution.
In response to the breach of party rules, the NPP declared that Hopeson Adorye, Nana Ohene Ntow, Boniface Abubakar Saddique, and Yaw Buaben Asamoa have officially forfeited their membership.
This decision serves as a reminder to all members to uphold party decisions and stay united in the lead-up to the crucial 2024 general elections.
The NPP, through its leadership, called on members to remain focused on the party’s overarching goal: to unite its ranks and secure the support of Ghanaians for a historic victory in the upcoming elections.
The announcement signals the party’s commitment to maintaining discipline and cohesion within its ranks as it prepares for the political challenges ahead.
As the political landscape in Ghana evolves, the forfeiture of membership serves as a notable chapter in the NPP’s journey, emphasizing the importance of party loyalty and adherence to constitutional principles for all its members.
