Ghanaian optometrist cum comedian, OB Amponsah, has called out YouTubers and vloggers who post full videos of performances from comedians on their channels without their consent.
According to OB Amponsah, they start writing new jokes whenever the year starts and when they find the perfect piece by trying them out in comedy clubs, they try to rotate it amongst different patrons.
But some bloggers and vloggers always film them during these corporate events and upload the full videos on their channels so the performances becomes old overnight.
He cited examples by calling out some journalists and bloggers like Olele Salvador, BTM Africa and Morris Tv GH for uploading his videos without his consent.
OB Amponsah made this revelation on his Facebook page.
He also acknowledged their support and noted, comedians, bloggers, vloggers and journalists should join hands to find a way around it.
When the year starts for a comedian, we start writing new jokes. We try them out in comedy clubs and save them if they work.

During the month, we get a couple of “invite only” “private shows” “corporate shows” and the likes.
At these shows a lot of standup comedians in Ghana make their bread. Also we keep making better of the materials we have by rotating them amongst different patrons. Everybody does it.
Our favorite Trevor Noah would tour the world with one solid routine and later make it available on Netflix for public view after he’s fleeced every dollar off the material. But we no get the tour money yet so that one be topic for another day.
So Most of these corporate shows we play in Ghana too, organizers invite bloggers and vloggers to come take coverage.
But dasani will video your whole performance and put on his YouTube channel. Some of these dasanis will even go Facebook live on you. Awwwww 🥹
What then happens is a lot of subscribers get to watch the videos of these jokes. And then the joke gets old for them, they want you to start telling new ones. The thing too ebi hard job. You can’t just cook something up without trying it out.
The way forward is to ask my permission, at least it is my property. We only have an agreement with the event company. Or wait for us to release these videos ourselves, then post what we have released. Or post a minute or two of these performances. Don’t feed them the whole thing. Awwww 🥹

When Lekzy Decomic hosted his 2Cute2BeMute, the queen had died afresh 😁 and then the Global Citizen concert too happened. I did some jokes about them and because they were trendy and I knew wouldn’t last for too long I decided to video and upload on my YouTube channel which had been silent for a while. My foolish videographer lost the video he shot of me and Lekzy wasn’t done editing his. The video was up on Olele’s channel right after the show. Awwww. Go see nice comments. Like it will help my YouTube too. Charlie I ended up downloading what Olele’s channel uploaded of me so I go fit chop some money off it on my channel too. It garnered 15K views. Bossu ein own 🆙 which is good too Charlie. But next time he for take give me make we upload together or something. Or make I upload give am credit or something.

SWAG awards. As Kwabena Yeboah called me, I figured the audience would be he and his fellow journalists enti I wrote some you know, jokes journalists and their big friends will get. I got there, started the performance and realized the audience were mixed on stage. 😁 No be small reshuffling I did in my head while finding whether to punch up or down. Minister for sports too dey around, I for not upset am. He’s a guest. Be nice to your guests. But eventually we came out ok. Nooooorrrr BTM Africa posts the thing for demma YouTube. I know they will argue the thing was streamed live but, come on man. Your views on YouTube are way more than the SWAG page sef. I wouldn’t post those jokes because I know they can be better moving forward. BTM be my friend, like he go fit tell me before sef.
