The CEO of Skyy FC, Wilson Arthur, has sparked speculation about his future in football after expressing frustration over the handling of games by referees in the current season. In an interview with Promise Radio 102.7, Mr Wilson Arthur hinted at the possibility of quitting the sport due to ongoing issues with officiating.
Arthur’s comments come amidst growing concerns about the quality and impartiality of refereeing in the Ghana Division One League, particularly in Zone 2 where Skyy FC competes. The CEO’s candid remarks shed light on the challenges faced by clubs and officials alike in navigating the complexities of football administration.
“I might quit football soon due to how referees have handled our games this season,” Arthur stated, highlighting the frustration felt by many within the football community. The perceived inconsistencies and alleged bias in officiating have fueled discontent among clubs and fans, casting a shadow over the integrity of the sport.
In a further indication of his disillusionment, Arthur revealed his intention to take a hiatus from football and seek spiritual guidance before making any decisions about his future. “After quitting football, I’ll go into hibernation and seek the face of God before I take the next action,” he remarked, underscoring the gravity of his contemplation.
Arthur also raised concerns about the conduct of specific referees, citing referee Asare Darko and alleging that he was involved in what he termed as ‘mafia’ activities. “They use referee Asare Darko for their ‘mafia’ work. He did the same thing to Osei Palmer,” Arthur asserted, alluding to previous incidents of controversy involving officiating decisions.
The remarks made by the Skyy FC CEO reflect broader discontent within the football community and highlight the urgent need for reforms to address issues of transparency, accountability, and fairness in refereeing. As the debate over officiating standards continues to simmer, stakeholders are called upon to work together to uphold the integrity and spirit of the beautiful game.
