The Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipality’s second Duker Teachers’ Awards ceremony, intended to recognize, reward, and inspire exceptional teachers, was conducted on Saturday, June 3, 2023 at the UMaT Auditorium in the presence of a Durbar of Chiefs, Teachers, Students, and extremely important guests.
The purpose of this year’s ceremony, which had the theme “Education, Our Future, Our Pride,” was to highlight the role that teachers have had in advancing education and bringing about positive social change.
Hon. George Mireku Duker talked about educational infrastructure initiatives and projects he has carried out since he became a member of parliament.
With education as his first goal he stated that teachers lack motivation despite the difficult tasks they undertake. As a result, it is important to explicitly acknowledge their efforts to improve education in the Municipality”
After Hon. Duker speech, Dr. Stephen Saforo Yirenkyi, the event’s chairman, praised his office for the initiative once more in his speech.
Nineteen (19) teachers in all received recognitin and awards across six (6) categories.
The following people received the awards in 2023:
Category for Non-Teaching Staff
Best Teacher: Joseph Cudjoe, Tarkwa SHS.
Salifu Mohammed, Municipal Education Office, came in second place.
3. Victor A. Mensah, 2nd Runner Up, Municipal Education Office.
Category Kindergarten (KG)
The best teacher was Mercy Odoom from Nanaboadi M/A Basic.
Second place went to Freda E. Banda of Tarkwa Islamic Basic.
Third Place: Priscilla Appiah, Jerusalem M/A Basic.
Primary Category

The award items include:
A TV set for every second-place finisher at every level;
2. For each of the first runners-up in each category, a double-door refrigerator with an integrated water dispenser.
3. A deep freezer for each category’s winners.
The top educator received a Suzuki Swift 2022 model, valued at $14,500.00, to take home.
In addition, he gave the Awards Committee two (2) laptops and the Tarkwa Midwifery School a television and chest freezer.
The Tarkwa Senior High School teacher who won overall best teacher honors, Madam Edna Amihere, expressed her sincere gratitude to Hon. George Mireku Duker for honoring the teachers in the municipality.
It was an amazing occasion as students, teachers, and family members all celebrated the big acknowledgment of their loved ones’ or teachers’ efforts.
In addition, Hon. Duker stated that he has established a comparable awards program to recognize exceptional medical professionals in his constituency. The inaugural event will soon take place.
Additionally, the Wassa Fiase Students Union (WaFSU), which aims to promote relationships and provide opportunities for Fiase students in Ghana and internationally.

He took the opportunity to thank all of his sponsors, including Commodity Monitor, XCMG Ghana, Transeco Minerals, Ghana Manganese Company, and Nguvu Mining Limited, which sponsored the vehicle.
He ended by giving special gratitude to his brother Omanhene Kwabena Asante, who moderated this year’s edition.
His final words were, “Together, we can improve the municipality’s perception of education.”
