St. John’s School, St. Mary’s Boys SHS (all based in Sekondi-Takoradi), and Ghana SHS, Koforidua, were another schools to compete on the Prelims at KNUST Auditorium. Following St. John’s victory over St. Mary’s on all Catholic Schools quiz this year St. Mary’s wanted revenge this time around, but St. John’s successfully qualified for the quarter final stage with a score of 38 points.

The Saints finally got their sweet win again over on St. Mary’s SHS by winning with 38 points.
The 30th Anniversary edition of the National Science & Maths Quiz kicked off on October 6th, 2023. As an exciting highlight of the 30th Anniversary celebrations, this year’s NSMQ is being hosted in two distinct regions: KNUST in Kumasi and the National Theatre in Accra.
This historic occurrence represents the first time the National Championship spans across two regions.
KNUST will serve as the venue for the preliminary four stages of the competition, with the Grand Finale scheduled to captivate audiences at the National Theatre.
All the contestants were in their seats by 8 a.m. eagerly anticipating the start of the competition.
The Quiz Mistress, Mrs. Gladys Odey Schwinger officially launched the contest at 9:15 a.m. Vying for a prized position in the one-eighth stage of the National Science & Maths Quiz 2023 was St. John’s School,
St. Mary’s SHS, and Ghana SHS, Koforidua.
The sad moment at the end of the contest was that St. Mary’s SHS lost to St. John’s after the fifth round.
After the end of Round 1, St. John’s pulled 15 points, St. Mary’s had 10 points, and Ghana SHS also had 11 points. The Saints were leading the race.
After Round Two concluded;
St. John’s School: 19pts
Ghana SHS, Koforidua: 12pts
St. Mary’s Boys’ SHS: 11pts
St. John’s widens the gap. It’ was looking good for them until the Problem of the Day helped St. Mary’s in the driving seat, It was getting “tensious” when St. John’s had zero.
At the conclusion of Round Three, the Problem of the Day, St. Mary’s SHS achieved a score of 9 out of 10, whereas Ghana SHS, Koforidua had 5 out of 10 and St. John’s
scored of zero out of 10 each.
St Mary’s SHS aspiration for revenge against St. John’s School was ultimately realised as they triumphed with an impressive on Round Three and will help them reach for the quarter final stage of the
NSMQ 2023.

But the Saints reclaimed their top spot after an impressive Round four;
St. John’s School: 35pts
St. Mary’s Boys’ SHS: 33pts
Ghana SHS, Koforidua: 21pts
Riddles were next, St. John’s hit last riddle to win the contest. At the end of the contest;
St. John’s School: 38pts
St. Mary’s Boys’ SHS: 36pts
Ghana SHS, Koforidua: 27pts
St. John’s School qualified for the quarter-final stage of the National Science and Maths Quiz 2023.
