49th SWAG Awards: Full List of Winners Celebrating Ghana’s Sports Excellence

The 49th Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) Awards took center stage as Ghana’s finest athletes, coaches, and sports personalities were honored for their remarkable achievements over the past year.

The prestigious event, held in Accra, celebrated the dedication, hard work, and success of individuals and teams who have excelled in their respective fields.

This year’s awards saw outstanding performers across multiple disciplines take home top honors. Here is the full list of winners:

  • Coach of the Year: Desmond Ofei (Black Satellites Coach)
  • Male Footballer of the Year: Abdul Azziz Issah
  • Prospect of the Year: Abdul Azziz Issah
  • Female Footballer of the Year: Mukarama Abdulai
  • National Team of the Year: Ghana’s Athletics Relay Team
  • Athlete of the Year: Edwin Gadayi
  • Boxer of the Year: Amadu Mohammed
  • Hockey Player of the Year: Elizabeth Opoku (GRA Ladies)
  • Swimmer of the Year: Abeiku Jackson
  • Weightlifter of the Year: Winifred Ntumi
  • Referee of the Year: Nii Otoo Larkyne
  • Club of the Year: Samartex
  • Cyclist of the Year: Emmanuel Sesi
  • Taekwondo Athlete of the Year: Kelvin Amuzu
  • Sports Personality of the Year: Rose Yeboah Amoanimaa
  • Sports Journalist of the Year: Bright Kankam Boadu
  • Prestigious SWAG President Award: Coach James Kwesi Appiah

The awards ceremony highlighted the exceptional contributions of Ghanaian athletes and sports professionals to the country’s sporting success. 

Rose Yeboah Amoanimaa took home the coveted Sports Personality of the Year award, while Mukarama Abdulai and Abdul Azziz Issah were recognized for their remarkable football performances.

In the world of athletics, Ghana’s Athletics Relay Team received the National Team of the Year award for their outstanding performances on the global stage.

Edwin Gadayi was named Athlete of the Year, and Abeiku Jackson once again proved his dominance in swimming by taking home the Swimmer of the Year title.

Bright Kankam Boadu, a well-known sports journalist, was recognized for his excellence in media coverage and analysis, earning the Sports Journalist of the Year award.

Coach James Kwesi Appiah, a respected figure in Ghanaian football, was honored with the SWAG President Award for his long-standing contributions to sports development in the country.
