I support what the supporters did – Dan Quaye

Former Hearts Of Oak player Dan Quaye says he is in support of what supporters of Hearts did by sacking Slavko Matic from the training grounds because the team belongs to them.

Prior to their matchday 20 fixture against archrival Asante Kotoko on March 5, 2023, at the Accra Sports Stadium, supporters of Hearts Of Oak stormed their training grounds to sack the coach from having his routine with the players. That wasn’t long after losing 0-1 in the Accra derby to Accra Great Olympics.

Reason for their actions were stated to be lack of home wins. The supporters believed coach Slavko Matic was finding it difficult to win home games and playing against their archrival wasn’t going to be the best for them if Coach Slavko Matic was to be in the dugout. Again, Coach Slavko Matic insinuated the top hierarchy are interfering after their round 32 exit from the FA Cup.

Many condemned the act of the supporters but club legend, Dan Quaye, has shared a different view.
He’s of the view that the club belongs to the supporters and whatever they deem fit, they should act upon. Besides, the results are good after the coach stepped aside.
“I can say the team belongs to the supporters, though we have board and management at the helm of affairs, so they should do what will make them satisfied. That’s why they asked the coach to step aside, I don’t think that was mischievous but they did that in the best interest of the club so we need to keep praying. As you can see, they boys have won two and drawn one game after the coach stepped aside, so I can say their performance is gradually picking up,” he said in an interview on Ewiase FM, Wenchi.
