The by-election to choose a new Member of Parliament for the Assin North district, according to the Electoral Commission (EC), is scheduled on Tuesday, June 27, 2023.

A verdict on James Gyakye Quayson’s citizenship status declared him guilty, and the Supreme Court ordered Parliament to remove any information about him from its records. This led to the by-election.
Because the court determined that he was a Canadian citizen at the time he ran for and won the seat in 2020, this is the case.
Following the Supreme Court’s ruling, the Assin North seat was declared empty by Parliament on May 30.
The Electoral Commission announced the by-election date on Wednesday, May 31, in accordance with Article 112(5) of the Constitution as amended.
Interested parties who intend to run for the seat must turn in their nomination papers to the Commission’s Assin North District Office between Monday, June 12, and Wednesday, June 14, 2023, according to the statement.
On each day, the submission window is set to be open from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm and from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
In order to complete their nomination procedure, aspirant candidates must pay a filing cost of GH $10,000, the notification adds.
Here is the complete statement from the EC.
