Coach James Kwesi Appiah appointed Asante Kotoko SC technical director

Asante Kotoko SC have named former Ghana national team coach, James Kwesi Appiah as technical director for the coming season.

The experienced Ghanaian football coach who is also a legend, by virtue of his long serves and dedication to the Ghanaian giant’s, and also winning the African Cup of Championship Cups in 1983 has been tasked to search for a new coach for the side before the 2023-24 league season starts.

He was offered the role of technical director on Friday, July 21, 2023 at a meeting held in Manhyia, the home of Ashanti Kingdom. A meeting between Asante Kotoko legends and King makers who serves the club owned by His Royal Majesty Otumfou Osei Tutu II was held, to deliberate on the best way forward for the outfit following the dissolution of the board of directors and management team.

Both the Board and management, were offered a period of three-years to run the club to a successful height but failed, asuch Manhyia’s decision to dissolve it.

The Ghana Premier League heavyweights, is also without substantive manager after Seydou Zerbo was fired in the course of the 2022-23 campaign. His role was taken on interim basis by young gaffer Abdul Gazale but will revert to his role as youth team coach, therfore the need for a new gaffer before 2023-24 league season commence.

Former Ghana international and first Ghanaian coach to qualify Ghana to the FIFA World Cup, Kwesi Appiah has returned to the club after many years. This time around, he comes in as the technical director and is expected to appoint new technical head for the outfit.

Kwesi Appiah first coached Asante Kotoko SC in 1992 to 1995 as an assistant before becoming head coach for a year(1995-1996). He has twice managed the Black Stars of Ghana.
