The disallowed equaliser by Cristian Medina in Argentina’s match against Morocco at the Paris 2024 Olympics has sparked a wave of outrage and strong reactions from the Argentine camp.
Following the ruling, which nullified Medina’s late goal due to an offside call, Argentine players and staff did not hold back their frustrations.
Javier Mascherano, Argentina’s coach, expressed his disbelief: “This is the biggest circus I have ever seen in my life.”
Nicolas Otamendi, a veteran defender, added: “This is historical. Morocco didn’t even want to play, we had talked about it already. It has never happened to me that a game was defined 1 hour & 40 minutes later.”
Nico Tagliafico, taking to social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter), vented his anger: “Leave out the circus, can we talk about the reason why it was suspended or are we going to continue being stupid? If it had been the other way around I can’t even imagine what they would be saying!” 😡🎪🤦🏻♂️
The match, which saw a prolonged delay and heated exchanges, has left a significant mark on the tournament, highlighting tensions and the critical role of VAR in modern football. As the tournament continues, the controversy surrounding this incident is sure to fuel further discussions.
