Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the running mate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has made a passionate and heartfelt appeal for a peaceful election on December 7, emphasizing the paramount importance of sustaining Ghana’s developmental gains.
He stressed that peace and unity are the essential cornerstones for the country’s progress, and it is crucial for citizens to commit to maintaining the peace currently being enjoyed.
Dr. Prempeh, affectionately known as ‘NAPO’, highlighted Ghana’s reputation as a beacon of democratic excellence in Africa and the world, thanks to the successful elections held under the 1992 constitution.
He proudly noted that Ghana’s name is being hailed globally for its democratic achievements, and this is a testament to the country’s commitment to peace and stability.
He urged citizens to jealously protect this peace and ensure another peaceful election, just like in previous years, to continue this positive trajectory.
NAPO made this appeal while addressing a gathering of esteemed chiefs and religious leaders at Kwapong in the Asunafo South District, Ahafo Region, on Tuesday, September 10.
He called on traditional and religious leaders to use their influential positions to promote peace and urged political parties to refrain from violent activities and focus on policy-based campaigns. He emphasized that the citizenry should prioritize peaceful coexistence and national unity over political affiliations.
He advised politicians to avoid insults and insinuations, which can trigger violence, and emphasized the need for unity after the elections. NAPO stressed that Ghana has only one nation, and after the elections, citizens should unite as one people to develop their dear country. He passionately appealed to political parties to desist from violent activities, especially as electioneering campaigns gather momentum.
Furthermore, NAPO expressed deep concern over the recent incidents of violent acts in the Ahafo enclave, which he said “poses a significant threat to national peace.” He urged the security agencies to act decisively and crack the whip on any individual or group of people apprehended for working to destabilize the country.
He emphasized that the security agencies should ensure that the rule of law is upheld and that those who seek to disrupt the peace are brought to justice.
