The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has officially postponed Matchday 20 of the Ghana Premier League (GPL) following the violent incidents and tragic fatality that marred the game between Nsoatreman FC and Asante Kotoko.

The decision, announced on Monday, aims to provide the GFA with ample time to engage relevant stakeholders, assess the impact of the violence, and discuss preventive measures for the future.

“This move is aimed at creating space for the GFA to engage with relevant stakeholders and discuss the ramifications of the violence,” the association said in a statement.

The tragic events at Nana Kronamansah Park saw a Kotoko supporter fatally stabbed following a confrontation outside the stadium, while players and officials also endured attacks from sections of the home crowd.

The incident has drawn widespread condemnation from clubs, the GFA, and the wider football community.

The GFA reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a safe footballing environment in Ghana, emphasizing that hooliganism and violence have no place in the game.

Further updates on the rescheduling of Matchday 20 fixtures and measures to enhance security at league venues are expected in the coming days.
