In a landmark decision heralding a new era for electronic sports in Ghana, the National Sports Authority (NSA) has officially recognized the Ghana eSports Federation (GESF) as the sole governing body for eSports in the country.

This significant development comes after the GESF successfully fulfilled all registration requirements and held constructive discussions with the NSA.

The approval of the GESF marks a pivotal moment for the gaming community in Ghana and across Africa, signaling a growing recognition of eSports as a legitimate sporting endeavor.

With this official recognition, the GESF assumes the responsibility of regulating and managing all eSports-related activities in Ghana, ushering in a new chapter of organization and professionalism in the burgeoning industry.

Igor Boumekpo, President of the Ghana eSports Federation, expressed his gratitude for the NSA’s endorsement, emphasizing the importance of this milestone for the gaming community. “This recognition by the NSA for the Ghana eSports Federation (GESF) is expected to mark a groundbreaking development for the esports community in Ghana and the gaming community in Africa holistically,” Boumekpo remarked.

The GESF has a proven track record of organizing successful gaming competitions and events, including the Warm Up eSports Festival in collaboration with 3Sports and the annual Orange eSports events.

These initiatives have not only showcased the talent and passion of gamers in Ghana but have also contributed to the growth and visibility of eSports on the continent.

One notable event organized by the GESF this year was the NFL Fan Zone in Accra, held during the NFL Africa Touchdown event, which saw the participation of esteemed guests such as the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. This event underscored the growing popularity and influence of eSports in Ghanaian society.

With the official recognition of the GESF, the future of gaming events in Ghana and Africa looks brighter than ever. The GESF is poised to lead the charge in advancing the gaming society in Ghana, fostering inclusivity, innovation, and excellence within the eSports community.

As eSports continues to gain traction as a global phenomenon, Ghana stands at the forefront of this digital revolution, poised to make significant strides in shaping the future of competitive gaming on the continent and beyond.
