Renowned Media Personality, Okyeame Quophi, has disclosed he made more money in media than music.
Okyeame Quophi was a member of the defunct hiplife duo, “Akyeame”, which had Okyeame Kwame as the other half.
Speaking in an interview with Kwame Dadzie on “Joy Entertainment”, he was asked, which of the two, between media and music fetched him more money. He responded;
“Media, any day, there’s no two ways about it. What music gave me was a good foundation, it gave me a name which is priceless, you can not buy that from the store. In this world I believe your name is everything. When you have a good name it opens doors, depending on the name that you have, it creates good connections. It gave me a platform for me to use to be able to do what I was cut out to do, but to see physical money, to be able to gather money and put it away and say that I have a saving, to dream of buying something and money wouldn’t be a limitation and everything, is my media job, it wasn’t the music”, he said.
Okyeame Quophi and Okyeame Kwame came together to form the duo called Akyeame in the mid 90s. Before then, he was doing disc jockeying which caught the eyes Pikuss Laryea who helped him gain TV exposure.
Their music was on every shore in Ghana and they won the “Artiste of the year” at the maiden edition of the Ghana Music Awards in 1999 with hit album “Mesan Aba”. It had the lead single”Mesan Aba ” which also won “song of the year”.
The duo went to the United States in 2004 and he took a course in sound engineering and videography. He now owns EMKLAN Studios where he produces musical clips, soundtracks, film editing, film directing, and more.
Okyeame Quophi was the host of Soundz Splash on TV Africa and he’s now the host of “Angel Drive” on Angel TV and Angel FM (102.9 Accra).
