Kyle Walker, one of Manchester City’s most decorated players, has joined AC Milan on a six-month loan deal, with the Serie A club retaining an option to buy the England international this summer for £4.2m (€5m).

The 34-year-old’s departure marks the end of an illustrious chapter in his career, which saw him help City secure an astonishing 17 trophies since his arrival in 2017.

Walker, who joined Manchester City from Tottenham in a £50m move, has been a key figure in Pep Guardiola’s side.

During his seven-and-a-half seasons at the Etihad, the defender made 319 appearances and played a pivotal role in City’s domestic and European dominance, including six Premier League titles and last season’s historic treble, capped by the club’s maiden UEFA Champions League victory.

Despite signing a contract extension in 2023 that would have kept him at City until 2026, Walker expressed his desire to leave earlier this January. His final appearance for the club came in the 4-1 Premier League win over West Ham.

After considering their options, City accepted Milan’s loan offer, allowing the defender to embark on a new chapter in his career.

Walker will wear the number 32 shirt for AC Milan, who currently sit eighth in Serie A, with aspirations of breaking into the Champions League qualification spots.

The Rossoneri are banking on Walker’s experience and leadership to bolster their squad as they push for a strong finish to the season.

AC Milan manager Stefano Pioli expressed his excitement about Walker’s arrival, saying, “Kyle is a proven winner and a world-class player. His experience at the highest level will be invaluable as we aim to strengthen our position in Serie A and Europe.”

Walker’s departure has been met with mixed emotions by Manchester City fans, who have fond memories of his years of service. As one of City’s most consistent and versatile defenders, Walker leaves behind a legacy of excellence and professionalism.

Now, all eyes turn to Walker as he takes on a new challenge in Italy, looking to make his mark in Serie A and potentially secure a permanent move to one of Europe’s most historic clubs.
