In a momentous decision heralding a new chapter for Ghanaian football, the Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has endorsed Otto Addo as the next head coach of the revered Black Stars.
Following an exhaustive search process led by a five-member committee, Otto Addo emerged as the standout candidate, earning plaudits for his exceptional vision and coaching acumen.
The announcement, made after a rigorous emergency meeting on Thursday, March 14, 2024, underscores the GFA’s commitment to revitalizing the national team and restoring its glory on the international stage.
Vice President Mark Addo, spearheading the search committee, presented their findings to the Executive Council, paving the way for Otto Addo’s appointment.
Hailing from Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund, Otto Addo brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the role. The Ghana Football Association has successfully negotiated his release from the German club, paving the way for him to assume his duties with the Black Stars.
President Simeon-Okraku expressed his confidence in Otto Addo’s ability to lead the team to greater heights, citing his standout performance during the interview process. “Otto was exceptional in the interview process and was rated highly by the search committee, hence the decision,” President Simeon-Okraku affirmed.
Acknowledging the caliber of candidates vying for the prestigious role, President Simeon-Okraku praised the thoroughness of the selection process. “There were some brilliant individuals among the coaches who applied for the job, so the committee took the pain to interview a chunk of them to pick their thoughts on their intentions to transform the team within a short period of time due to our peculiar situation,” he noted.
Otto Addo’s appointment comes with a 34-month contract, with the option for a further 24-month extension, reflecting the GFA’s long-term vision for the team’s success.
He will join the Black Stars for the upcoming March international window before officially assuming his duties in May, after bidding farewell to Borussia Dortmund.
