Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Sam George, has thrown down the gauntlet, challenging the Ministry of Finance to provide official communication from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank regarding the alleged dire consequences of Ghana’s anti-gay bill on international aid.
In a bold assertion against what he perceives as misinformation, Sam George took a stand during an interview on 3FM Sunrise Morning Show, questioning the validity of claims made by the Ministry of Finance.
He emphasized that there has been no official communication from the World Bank or the IMF supporting the assertions made by the Ministry.
“The World Bank and IMF have not communicated the things that the Ministry of Finance has put out in any official communication,” Sam George stated unequivocally.
He went on to challenge the Ministry of Finance and specifically Hon. Amin Anta Adam to publish any official communication from the IMF and the World Bank that explicitly links the anti-LGBTQ+ bill to the potential denial of credit supports.
Expressing skepticism about the motivations behind these alleged claims, the MP suggested that certain individuals within the Ghanaian government might be advancing personal interests rather than prioritizing the nation’s welfare.
“It is persons within the Ghana government system, who are trying to please whichever paymasters they have that are painting this picture,” Sam George remarked.
The controversy surrounding the anti-LGBTQ+ bill, Sam George’s challenge, adds a significant dimension to the discourse, demanding transparency and concrete evidence to support the government’s claims about potential consequences for international aid.
