The 2025/2026 Western Regional Football Association (WRFA) Super Middle League has been plunged into controversy following serious allegations of corruption, regulatory breaches, and administrative bias.
The competition, currently underway at the Axim Sports Complex, is facing scrutiny over claims that certain officials are facilitating irregularities to favor Ebiemo FC—reportedly a club linked to WRFA Regional Chairman Simon Ehumah.
Also implicated in the unfolding controversy is Dr. P. P. Pearson, Chairman of the WRFA Competitions Committee, who is alleged to have either enabled or overlooked the breaches.
Allegations of Player Ineligibility
At the heart of the matter are claims that several players currently featuring in the Ghana Premier League for Basake Holy Stars are simultaneously playing for Ebiemo FC in both the WRFA Division Two League and the Super Middle League.
The players named include Elim Jonnie Minimsaah, Kojo Mahama, Emmanuel Tetteh, Abdul Basit Dugbatey, Bismark Teye, Enis Boadi, Prince Asempa, and Lawrence Gadeseh. These players have reportedly featured in top-flight matches against clubs such as Medeama SC, Karela United, Bibiani Gold Stars, FC Samartex, Nations FC, and Techiman Eleven Wonders.
Their continued participation in the regional competition, despite their Premier League involvement, is being described as a clear violation of player registration and eligibility rules.
Protest Ignored
The situation escalated after BOHG FC lodged an official protest with the General Secretary of the Ghana Football Association, Prosper Harrison Addo, on April 12, 2026.
The protest, which followed BOHG FC’s 2–0 loss to Ebiemo FC, included detailed evidence supporting claims of player ineligibility. However, according to sources, no disciplinary action or directive has been issued since the submission.
In a development that has further fueled outrage, Ebiemo FC allegedly fielded the same players again and secured another victory over Great Nanas on April 14.
Growing Concerns
Stakeholders have raised several critical concerns, including:
- Violation of regulations: Players competing for two clubs in separate competitions within the same season.
- Conflict of interest: The alleged link between Ebiemo FC and the WRFA Chairman.
- Administrative complicity: Failure by competition officials to act on reported breaches.
- Governance failure: Inaction by the GFA despite formal complaints.
- Unfair advantage: Use of top-tier players in a lower-tier competition.
Impact on Competition Integrity
The controversy is already having a damaging effect on the credibility of the competition. Clubs adhering to the rules feel disadvantaged, while match outcomes are being questioned.
Observers warn that if left unaddressed, the situation could erode trust in both the WRFA and the national football administration, tarnishing the image of Ghana football.
Calls for Immediate Action
There are growing calls for the Ghana Football Association to intervene swiftly. Key demands include:
- Launching an independent investigation
- Provisionally suspending Ebiemo FC
- Reviewing or annulling affected match results
- Probing the roles of implicated officials
- Enforcing strict adherence to player eligibility rules
Conclusion
With tensions rising and confidence in the system wavering, the WRFA Super Middle League finds itself at a critical juncture. The coming days will be crucial in determining whether decisive action will be taken to restore fairness and integrity to the competition.
