A young Ghanaian man, Francis Asare, has opened up about the severe hardship he is enduring after he was allegedly wrongfully declared wanted by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), an incident that has reportedly cost him his job and taken a toll on his mental well-being.
According to Francis, his ordeal began on July 24, 2024, when his photograph was circulated on social media by Rainbow Radio, claiming he was being sought by the OSP in connection with an undisclosed case. The unexpected publication left him shocked and fearful.
In an emotional account shared with Crime Check TV, Francis explained that he immediately sought to clear his name by reporting himself to the OSP office with the help of his brother.
“Good morning sir. My name is Asare Francis. On 24 July 2024, Rainbow Radio posted me with my picture on social media saying I am wanted by the Special Prosecutor. I was afraid, so I called my brother to take me there,” he recounted.
Upon arrival, Francis said officials at the OSP informed him that he was not the individual they were looking for, admitting that it was a case of mistaken identity. He further claimed he was told the error stemmed from incorrect information allegedly provided by Fidelity Bank Ghana.
Despite the clarification, the damage had already been done. Francis, a Junior High School graduate, said the incident led to him losing his job and suffering emotional distress.
“Because of that I lost my job. At the same time, I am going through mental problems too.
Please I really need your help,” he appealed.
The case has since sparked concerns about due diligence, accountability, and the potential consequences of public misidentification by institutions. Questions are now being raised about whether the OSP will take responsibility for the error and offer compensation to the affected individual.
Francis is currently calling for public support as he struggles to rebuild his life, while many observers say the situation highlights the urgent need for accuracy and caution in public disclosures involving criminal investigations.
