Bofoakwa Tano defeat Eleven Wonders to earn promotion to the Premier League.

Bofoakwa Tano returned to the betPawa Premier League after a 16-year absence by defeating Eleven Wonders 7-6 on penalties following a 1-1 draw.

Bofoakwa Tano had a fast start to the game and went ahead after just seven minutes of play, Leslie Aryeetey gave his team the lead from a spot-kick.

Saaka Dauda’s close-range goal gave Bofoakwa Tano the impression that they had doubled their advantage in the 26th minute. The goal, however, was disallowed for offside.

Sulemana Adamu Rashid, the goalkeeper, made a good save to keep the score at 1-0 at halftime as Bofoakwa Tano maintained control of the game and came close to scoring in the final minutes of the first half.

Eleven Wonders equalized the score just one minute into the second half as Osman Zackaria leaped high to head home a corner kick from Hamza Mohammed.

After losing the ball, Bofoakwa Tano picked up their game and nearly scored in the 57th and 62nd minutes. Before Leslie Aryeetey was able to shoot in a one on one situation directly into the goalkeeper’s hands, Enoch Abu initially struck the post.

Bofoakwa Tano thought they had taken the lead again in the 70th minute when Leslie Aryeetey touched in from close range after Saaka Dauda’s free kick hit the post, but the goal was rightfully disallowed for offside.

Both teams in the remaining minutes of the game pushed for the winner but failed to take the chances that came their way as the game went into extra time.

The extra-time produced no goals and penalties was needed to separate the two sides. Bofoakwa Tano won the shootouts 7-6, securing a spot in the Premier League for the first time since the 2006–07 campaign.

Bofoakwa Tano is the third team to be promoted to the betPawa Premier League, joining Heart of Lions and Nations FC.
