Atletico Madrid secures a stunning 3-1 derby victory, ending Real Madrid’s undefeated start to the season.
Morata and Griezmann scored on identical corners in the space of 18 minutes for a 2-0 advantage for Simeone’s team, who were superior from the start.
Before Camavinga’s goal was correctly disallowed for offside, Kroos pulled Madrid back into the game. A second-half surge by Atletico restored their two-goal lead, and Morata doubled his team’s advantage inside 34 seconds of the restart.
Madrid was unable to respond, so the bragging rights belong to their neighbors.
Atletico is now sixth in the early-season standings thanks to that victory. With their match against Sevilla being postponed earlier this month, they have a game in hand on practically all of their competitors despite being six points behind table leaders Barcelona.
Madrid is in third place with 15 points, but this weekend, Girona and Barca have both surpassed Los Blancos.
