Akufo-Addo urges 21 new High Court judges to deliver justice promptly and fairly

President Akufo-Addo has emphasized the crucial role of the judiciary in Ghana’s governance structure, urging 21 newly appointed justices of the High Court of Judicature to prioritize delivering justice swiftly and impartially.
During their swearing-in ceremony at the Jubilee House on September 30, 2024, the President administered the Oaths of Office, Allegiance, and Secrecy.

In his address, President Akufo-Addo stressed that by taking on the responsibilities of High Court justices, these individuals have been entrusted with the wellbeing of the Ghanaian people.
He underscored the significance of their roles in upholding justice and ensuring that it is accessible to all citizens, regardless of their background or socioeconomic status.

The President drew attention to the High Court’s stature as a superior court of record, as stipulated in Article 140 of the Ghanaian Constitution. He noted that the High Court has jurisdiction over civil and criminal matters, making it a critical institution in the country’s judicial system.

President Akufo-Addo emphasized that the High Court is often the first and last point of contact for many Ghanaians seeking justice. As such, the decisions made by these justices have a profound impact on the lives of ordinary citizens. He therefore charged the newly appointed justices to demonstrate honesty, sound judgment, and a strong attachment to the rule of law.

The President cautioned that corruption or incompetence within the judiciary poses a significant danger to the administration of justice and the public interest.
He emphasized that the Ghanaian people look up to the justices to uphold the integrity of the judicial system and ensure that justice is served impartially.

President Akufo-Addo’s remarks underscored the expectation that the justices will fulfill their duties diligently and without bias, reinforcing the public’s faith in the judiciary.

As Ghana continues to navigate the complexities of its democratic journey, the role of the judiciary remains vital. President Akufo-Addo’s emphasis on swift and impartial justice serves as a reminder of the importance of a fair and effective judicial system in promoting the rule of law and protecting the rights of all citizens.
