“Speaker of Parliament, Hon Alban Bagbin has initiated an investigation into a disturbing video depicting immigration officers physically assaulting a woman at the Aflao border in Ketu South Municipality.
The incident was brought to Parliament’s attention by local MP Abla Dzifa Gomashie, who raised concerns about the training and culture within the immigration service.
The video shows armed officers violently handling an unarmed woman, prompting Bagbin to direct the Interior Minister to report back to Parliament by July 29, 2024. Emphasizing the importance of public servants serving the people, not wielding force against them, Bagbin seeks a thorough inquiry into this incident.”
“The Speaker, Alban Bagbin, condemned the use of force by public servants, especially against women, as utterly unacceptable. He called for a comprehensive investigation into the incident and directed the Minister for Interior to report back to Parliament on the actions taken.
Emphasizing the role of public servants as servants of the people, Bagbin stressed that they are not authorized to use force, unlike the armed forces who are trained for such purposes as a last resort.
He expressed particular outrage at the use of force against women, deeming it ‘completely uncivilized’ and ‘not allowed.’ The Speaker vowed to allow the investigations to unfold and await the outcome.”
