In an interview with Tarkwa-based Space FM, 87.7, the secretary of Goldfields Ghana Foundation Mr. Razak Yakubu said that Tarkwa TNA Park won’t be ready for Medeama Sc Africa campaign. The stadium will be completed officially in March 2024.
On Friday, 6th October 2023, the MCE of Tarkwa Hon Benjamin Kessie inspected the TNA park with Goldfields Ghana and some dignitaries. After the inspection the MCE said that the TNA pitch may not be in good shape to host the group matches and told the contractors to work hard on the pitch so it can be used for Medeama group matches.
But today, 17th October, 2023, on Space FM at Tarkwa, Mr Razak, the secretary of Goldfields Ghana Foundation, confirmed that the pitch won’t be ready for Medeama CAF Champions League group games.
Medeama now has to move their games to either Kumasi or Cape Coast Sports Stadium.
This is as a result of the TNA Stadium in Tarkwa not being prepared to host Medeama during the group stage of the CAF Champions League.
Medeama didn’t get the needed support from the people of Cape Coast, and Kumasi will embrace Medeama by trooping in their numbers to support Medeama at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
The Tarkwa-based club’s management may choose to shift its CAF Champions League group stage matches from Cape Coast Sports Stadium to the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi due to poor attendance at Cape Coast Sports Stadium during their preliminary round of matches.
The Mauve and Yellow competed in the CAF Champions League’s preliminary rounds at Cape Coast Sports Stadium, winning both of their two home games against Horoya AC and Remo Stars of Nigeria.
The CAF Champions League’s Group D includes the reigning Ghana Premier League champions as well as the Egyptian powerhouse Al Ahly, Algeria’s CR Belouizdad, and Tanzania’s Young Africans.
The CAF Champions League group stage will start on November 24, 2023, and end on May 26, 2024.
Medeama will participate in the CAF Champions League for the first time in the club’s history.
Medeama travels to Egypt to face Al Ahly in their opening fixture of the CAF Champions League group stage.
