A group of New Patriotic Party (NPP) youngsters were found guilty and fined GH2,400 each for storming the UTV studios and interfering with a live broadcast of an entertainment program.
On Saturday, October 7, 2023, a group of individuals who claimed to be supporters or NPP members invaded UTV’s Accra offices, broke into the studios, and interrupted a live broadcast of the United Showbiz show.
The police detained the 16 individuals for breaking into the Accra-based television channel UTV’s studios to obstruct a live program.
The Ministry of Information (MoI) and the proprietors of UTV, Despite Media Group, filed a complaint, which led to the detention.
After investigations, they were subsequently charged at an Achimota Magistrate Court.
They admitted guilt after being charged with rioting and conspiracy to conduct crime.
As a result, the court found them guilty on their own admission and fined each of them GH2,400.
