Brighton & Hove Albion have announced the appointment of Fabian Hurzeler as the club’s new head coach, making him the youngest manager in Premier League history at 31. Hurzeler succeeds Roberto De Zerbi and has signed a three-year contract, pending a work permit.
“I am absolutely thrilled to be the new head coach of Brighton & Hove Albion,” Hurzeler expressed on Brighton’s official website. “After speaking to Tony [Bloom], Paul [Barber], and David [Weir], it was clear they are highly ambitious. Brighton has a unique history and a bold vision for the future, so I am truly excited to be part of the project.”
Hurzeler’s impressive tenure at St Pauli, where he guided the team to promotion to the Bundesliga by winning the 2. Bundesliga title last season, caught the attention of Brighton’s leadership. Chairman Tony Bloom praised Hurzeler’s approach: “From the start of the process to appoint our new head coach, Fabian was always a standout candidate. He has a style of play that aligns with how we want a Brighton & Hove Albion team to play, and I’m confident it is one our supporters will appreciate and enjoy.”
Bloom, known for his innovative choices in management, emphasized Hurzeler’s coaching pedigree, noting his experience with the German federation at various age levels. “We are really excited to start working with Fabian to prepare for the upcoming season,” he added.
Brighton will compensate St Pauli for Hurzeler’s move, marking a significant investment in their future. Hurzeler’s ambition aligns with Brighton’s vision, as he stated, “The club has made incredible progress over the last few seasons, and the aim is to continue building on that success. I am relishing the opportunity to coach in the Premier League, and I can’t wait to meet the players, staff, and, of course, the fans.”
Hurzeler’s appointment is seen as a bold move by Brighton, underlining their commitment to innovative and progressive football. Fans eagerly await the new season to see how the youngest manager in Premier League history will shape the team.
