Election 2024: We’ll resist LGBTQ+ at any cost – Bawumia

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has once again reaffirmed his strong opposition to the introduction of LGBTQ+ practices into Ghanaian society. During his recent Eastern Regional tour, Dr. Bawumia addressed clergy, traditional leaders, and stakeholders in Anyinam, emphasizing that these practices fundamentally contradict the country’s deeply held religious beliefs and cultural values.

He stressed that both the Bible and the Quran, as well as the core tenets of Ghanaian traditions, do not support LGBTQ+ activities.

Dr. Bawumia’s remarks came after Abena Osei Asare, Member of Parliament for Atewa East, commissioned a newly constructed constituency office.

In his address, Dr. Bawumia declared that under his leadership, the NPP would resolutely oppose any attempts to introduce LGBTQ+ ideologies into Ghana, regardless of external pressures or costs involved.

He emphasized that the party would stand firm in resisting the introduction of these practices, which he believes would undermine the country’s moral fabric.

Dr. Bawumia’s stance on LGBTQ+ issues resonates with many Ghanaians who share similar concerns about the potential impact of these practices on their society. His commitment to upholding Ghana’s cultural and religious values has been well-received by various segments of the population.

In addition to addressing LGBTQ+ issues, Dr. Bawumia also tackled concerns about galamsey, a pervasive problem plaguing Ghana’s environmental and economic landscape. Responding to calls from traditional leaders, he proposed a licensing regime for small-scale mining that would grant licenses locally, with chiefs playing a pivotal role in the issuance process.

This decentralized approach aims to streamline mining activities, mitigate pollution, and protect forest reserves. By empowering local communities and traditional leaders, Dr. Bawumia hopes to strike a balance between economic development and environmental sustainability.

Dr. Bawumia’s remarks have sparked lively debates and discussions across Ghana, with many welcoming his stance on LGBTQ+ issues and galamsey.
As the country navigates complex social, economic, and environmental challenges, Dr. Bawumia’s leadership and policy proposals are being closely watched by Ghanaians and international observers alike.
