Enough is Enough demo: We just want free, fair elections – NDC

Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has reiterated the party’s uncompromising call for a credible voters’ register through a comprehensive forensic audit by the Electoral Commission (EC) ahead of Ghana’s pivotal December 7 elections.

Addressing a sea of passionate supporters at Accra’s iconic Kwame Nkrumah Circle, Asiedu Nketiah emphasized the paramount importance of transparency in ensuring free and fair elections, which are the cornerstone of democratic governance.
The NDC’s nationwide protests, spanning all 16 regions of Ghana, aim to pressure the EC to take concrete steps toward addressing deep-seated concerns about the integrity of the electoral process.

Asiedu Nketiah’s impassioned plea underscored the gravity of the situation, warning that Ghana’s democracy is under serious threat.
He emphasized that transparent elections are crucial for guaranteeing citizens’ fundamental right to choose their leaders, a principle enshrined in the nation’s constitution.

“The very foundation of our democracy is at stake,” Asiedu Nketiah stressed. “We cannot afford to compromise on the integrity of our electoral process.
A credible voters’ register is non-negotiable, and we will continue to fight for it.”

The NDC’s demands are part of broader efforts to strengthen Ghana’s democracy, which, despite being one of Africa’s most stable, faces challenges that could undermine its resilience. Asiedu Nketiah’s words resonated with the crowd, echoing the sentiments of many Ghanaians who are increasingly concerned about the nation’s democratic trajectory.

Ghana’s democratic history has been marked by significant milestones, including peaceful transitions of power.
However, the NDC’s concerns about the electoral process highlight the need for continued vigilance and improvement.

The EC’s response to the NDC’s demands will be crucial in addressing concerns about the electoral process.
The international community is also watching, as Ghana’s stability is vital in West Africa. The nation’s democratic partners and observers must support efforts to enhance electoral transparency and accountability.

Asiedu Nketiah’s call to action resonated with the crowd, as he emphasized that democratic-minded citizens willing to fight for democracy, rather than elections alone, are essential for its survival.

“Elections alone do not guarantee democracy,” he noted. “It is democratic-minded citizens who are ready to fight for them who can guarantee democracy.”

The NDC’s determination to ensure a credible electoral process reflects its commitment to Ghana’s democratic advancement.
As the nation approaches the December 7 polls, the party’s demands for transparency and accountability will continue to shape the electoral discourse.

In conclusion, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah’s address highlighted the urgent need for electoral reform and the importance of citizen engagement in safeguarding democracy.

The NDC’s nationwide protests and demands for a forensic audit of the voters’ register demonstrate the party’s unwavering commitment to protecting Ghana’s democratic heritage.
