The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has taken a bold stance against the Electoral Commission (EC) regarding discrepancies in the provisional voter register, sparking a nationwide outcry for transparency and accountability.
On September 17, the NDC organized a massive protest, dubbed “Enough is Enough,” across all its regional offices. This demonstration of public discontent culminated in the submission of petitions to the EC’s headquarters in Accra and its regional offices.
The petitions urged the commission to conduct a forensic audit of the voter register, ensuring the credibility and integrity of the upcoming December 7 general elections.
According to Sammy Gyamfi, the NDC’s National Communications Officer, the party is giving the EC a one-week ultimatum to review the petition and respond favorably to their demands.
Should the EC fail to act, the NDC will embark on a series of activities aimed at compelling the commission to grant their request for the audit.
Gyamfi emphasized, “We are giving the EC one week, and we hope to hear from them favorably.
We hope that their conscience will prick them to do the sensible thing, which is to allow for the register to be audited if they have nothing to hide.”
The NDC’s demands are centered around three key issues:
