The family of the late referee Akorligah Kwofie has announced their intention to take legal action against Tarkwa Barcelona FC and its president following inflammatory post-match comments made by the club president. The remarks came after Tarkwa Barcelona FC suffered a 3-2 defeat to BIS Paradise.
In a statement released by the family, they expressed their deep disappointment and distress over the president’s comments, which they believe tarnished the memory and professional reputation of the late referee Kwofie. The family asserts that these comments were not only disrespectful but also potentially defamatory, prompting their decision to seek legal redress.
“We are deeply aggrieved by the irresponsible and damaging comments made by the president of Tarkwa Barcelona FC,” a family spokesperson said. “These remarks have not only caused emotional pain to our family but have also unjustly discredited the professional integrity of the late referee Kwofie. We feel compelled to take legal action to protect his legacy and seek justice.”
The specific comments made by the club president, which have not been detailed publicly, are reported to have questioned the impartiality and competence of referee Kwofie, who was officiating the match at the time of his untimely demise. The family maintains that such allegations are baseless and have significantly harmed their reputation.
The president of Tarkwa Barcelona FC has not yet responded to the family’s announcement or the impending legal action. However, sources close to the club suggest that an official statement may be forthcoming in the wake of these developments.
This situation adds another layer of complexity to the ongoing investigations and discussions surrounding the circumstances of the match and the conduct of all parties involved. The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has been notified of the family’s intentions and is expected to closely monitor the legal proceedings.
As the story unfolds, further details are expected to emerge, shedding more light on the potential legal implications and the impact this case may have on the broader football community in Ghana.
For now, the family of the late referee Akorligah Kwofie is resolute in their quest for justice, determined to defend his honor and ensure that such incidents do not tarnish the spirit of fair play and respect in Ghanaian football.
