Ace Ghanaian rapper, Kwame Nsiah Appau, known popularly as Okyeame Kwame(Rap Doctor), has urged Ghanaian hardcore rappers to switch to melodic rap if they want commercial success.
Rap genre seem to be a very difficult ground to make a leap if artists decides solely on the hardcore rap.
On “Showbiz A-Z” on “Joy FM” with host Sammy Forson, Okyeame Kwame was asked if he would urge hardcore rappers to switch to melodic rappers if they want commercial success.
Okyeame Kwame without being evasive gave his big YES to it.
“I completely agree with what you’ve said, let me use a classic example like Sarkodie. When Sarkodie started rapping, we all enjoyed what he was doing but it was when he added melody to it ‘baby the things you dey do me dey make….'(ft Mugeez)…..then he became a national success. So it’s very key we don’t water down the melody because it’s the most difficult part of the creative process.”
