Kenya’s former President Uhuru Kenyatta (2013-2022) has been appointed to head the African Union election observation mission to Nigeria.
The African Union contributes to electoral observation through the African Union Election Observation Missions, AUEOM.
The objectives of the AUEOM are:
1.Provisions of impartial and accurate reports or assessment of elections , including the degree to which the conduct of the elections meets regional, continental and international standards for democratic elections;
2.Offering of recommendations for improvement of further elections based on the findings, and;
3.To demonstrate the AU’s interest to AU member States’ elections and democratisation process, to ensure that the conduct of genuine elections contribute to the consolidation of democratic governance, peace and stability.
General elections in Nigeria to elect the President, Vice, Members of the Senate, and House of Representatives, will be held on February 25, 2023. Mohammadu Buhari, the incumbent president is not to run, being term limited.
The candidates for the presidency are Peter Obi (LP), Bola Tinubu (APC), Rabiu Kwankwaso (NNPP), and Atiku Abubakar (PDP).
